CCLEX to be part of Cebu Marathon 2023 race route

After featuring prominently in the successful return to Cebu of the IRONMAN 70.3 Philippines, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway will again be highlighted in another iconic sporting event – the Cebu Marathon.

“For the first time since the CCLEX opened, runners will be able to climb the iconic bridge and run the full length of its 8.9 km distance linking Cebu and Mactan,” said CCLEC President and General Manager Allan Alfon.

The Cebu Marathon is the country’s most festive 42K running event. Pandemic restrictions forced organizers to hold a virtual race in the past two years. It is returning to an in-person race on January 8, 2023.

Alfon said the CCLEX “now the longest and tallest bridge in the country, is also fast becoming a new sports icon, supporting the revival of Cebu’s tourism industry and the economy.”

Cebu City Sports Commission Chairman John Pages, who is also with CERC, told CDN Digital that the Cebu Marathon is something big to look forward to.

“One, it’s been more than three years since we had our last Cebu Marathon. Second, we’re limited to virtual runs for two years. Now, we’re returning and runners have more than five months to prepare. That’s ample time to train for the 42k. And third, the CCLEX. This combination would give us record numbers in terms of participation,” he told CDN Digital.

Organizers of the Cebu Marathon led by John Pages, Chairman of the Cebu City Sports Commission with Meyrick Jacalan and Jesse Taborada (President) of Cebu Executive Runners Club with Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation President and General Manager Allan Alfon. The CCLEX will be part of the race route of Cebu Marathon 2023.
